Founded in 2007, the Entrepreneurial Learning Initiative originated through a collaboration with the Cisco Entrepreneur Institute to conduct a gap analysis in entrepreneurship curriculum, the discovery led to an ethnographic research project where ELI conducted interviews with hundreds of entrepreneurs from the United States and Canada to better understand the underlying beliefs and cognitive process that stimulate entrepreneurial behavior. That same year, the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation made a program-related investment to evolve the eight life lessons into the Ice House Entrepreneurship Program.
ELI is the creator of the Ice House Entrepreneurship Programs, which has been presented to the United Nations General Assembly, the Papal Council for Peace and Justice at the Vatican, and the European Commission.
Philosophy
Entrepreneurship is a mindset; a framework for thinking and acting that can empower anyone to succeed. And, in today’s rapidly changing, highly-complex world, the need for entrepreneurial thinkers at all levels of society has never been greater.
From preparing students to become workforce-ready graduates or next-generation innovators to elevating the entrepreneurial thinking of the existing workforce, an entrepreneurial mindset exposes opportunity, ignites ambition, and fosters innovation. It shifts everyday thinking into a new framework, empowering people to identify problems, deploy solutions, and make connections by using creative and critical thinking, communication, and collaboration.
